Marcella Welch Obituary

I found Marcella Welch’s obituary, published in 1938, in the Hartford Courant. She is NOT Peter and Ann’s daughter named Marcella.

According to the obit, Marcella Welch was born in Ireland and never married. She was about 87 years old when she died, which places her birth around 1851 -- and she had been a resident of Hartford for about 60 years, so could be Ann’s sister instead. Ann was born about 1848-1852.

I didn’t find an obituary online for either Margaret Mary Corrigan or Mary Jane Corrigan (but I may purchase them from the Courant).

I did find Mary Jane Corrigan in the Connecticut Death Index, 1949-2001, database on Ancestry.com. Her name and birth information match what I know of Peter and Ann’s daughter Mary Jane. This is a good sign.

Trying to find Marcella Welch’s census records is somewhat challenging. I did not find a Marcella/Marsella born around 1851, but I have a few other possibilities:

1880 U.S. census: born about 1859 in Ireland, a Servant
1900 U.S. census: born about Dec 1845 in Ireland, a Servant
1910 U.S. census: born about 1865 in Ireland, a Servant
1920 U.S. census: born about 1870 in Ireland, a Servant
1930 U.S. census: born about 1870 in Ireland, a Lodger

Too many conflictions at this point to understand where Marcella fits in, but if she is Ann’s sister this may be revealed later.
