Aloysius Thomas HIGGINS was the son of John HIGGINS -- my gg uncle -- who either adopted Annie Adelaide KERRIGAN or welcomed her upon being “put out to relatives.”
Nobody knows. But back to Aloysius…
He was a Jesuit priest who died in Kingston, Jamaica in 1923 while doing mission work. His 1918 U. S. passport application lists the birth place of his father [John] as Ireland – no surprise there, but just above the word “Ireland” is written “Watertown.” [1]
I searched for Watertown way back in 2007 without any luck, thinking it could be anywhere.
It still could be anywhere.
But…
…with the recent discovery that Mary CORRIGAN of 88 Walnut fame was born “at parish Tobber Clare”, County Westmeath, I’ve been honing in on the area via various maps.
Just south of Tubberclaire is a place called Glasson and just south of Glasson is “Waterstown.” Waterstown is listed as a placename in Kilkenny West civil parish, Co. Westmeath, according to Irishtimes.com. And so is Toberclare.
Now...I know better than to assume ANYTHING in genealogy, but I feel I’m getting closer to solving something I’ve been working on for awhile: was Annie Adelaide KERRIGAN related to John HIGGINS?
