Scanlon # 8: Objectives

My main objective for Cornelius Scanlon is to prove or disprove a connection to the Roman Catholic parish of Lismore, in County Waterford, Ireland.

I’m going to focus part of my time now on locating naturalization records for both Cornelius Scanlon and his possible brother John – even though these records are not likely to list a specific town of origin for either Cornelius or John.

The records may, however, list a county of birth; I have seen other naturalization records prior to 1906 that do so.

U. S. censuses agree that both Cornelius and John were naturalized citizens.  The 1920 U. S. census indicates John’s year of naturalization was about 1877, which does not pre-date his immigration year:

Immigration Year
RECORD
CORNELIUS
JOHN
1900 U. S. census [1]
1850
1873
1910 U. S. census [2]
1862
1872
1920 U. S. census [3]

1872 (Naturalized 1877)
1930 U. S. census [4]

1873

The immigration year for Cornelius is obviously less defined than John’s, so I will begin with John.
