Mary Noonan's Baptism

Wednesday's post mentioned the household of Jeremiah Noonan in the 1870 U. S. Census for Quincy, Houghton, Michigan [1].

This census reported that Mary Noonan -- in the 1870 household of Jeremiah Noonan -- had been born in Ireland and was about seven years old (born about 1863) on census day.  I searched for her baptism and found a good match in the Roman Catholic parish of Lismore:

Name
Date of Baptism
Parish
Address
Father
Mother
Mary Noonan [2]
26 April 1862
Lismore (Roman Catholic)
Ballysagartmore
Jeremiah Noonan
Ellen Fox

Now I’ll be ordering FHL film 001,972,732 – “Michigan Deaths, 1921-1952” – to take a look at a copy of the following original document.  The corresponding FamilySearch index lists the death of one Mary Crowley with no image available:

Name
Date of Birth
Date of Death
Death Place
Father
Mother
Mary Crowley [3]
30 April 1863
20 June 1930

Houghton, Houghton, Michigan
Jeremiah Noonan
Ellen Fox

Crowley is more than likely Mary’s married name, while the birth date appears to be later than the Lismore baptism.  Yet birth information on a death record is secondary information while the date of baptism is primary information and likely closer to the truth.
